steamvac carpet cleaner::Although i was extremely happy with my bissell, i decided to try the hoover based on all the good reviews.
It is a decent machine, however, i thought it might be helpful to others if they knew the differences in operation between the two while making a purchasing decision.
Assembly: the bissell is much easier and faster to put together than the hoover.
There just fewer parts and screws that need to be attached.
Both have clear instructions and are relatively easy though.
Water tanks: the hoover has separate clean solution and recovery tanks while the bissell has a clean water bladder inside the recovery tank.
I think the tanks are fairly comparable in size.
This the greatest drawback to the hoover.
The cleaning solution is applied directly to the clean water tank.
This means that you have to completely empty and clean both tanks in order to rinse the carpet.
With the bissell, the cleaning solution is in a small separate tank.
With the hoover, you also waste any cleaning solution that was left since you have to dump it.
Brushes: i think the hoover spin brushes are a little harder on the carpet than the bissell rotating brush.
I cleaned my carpets with the bissell for 6 years and they always looked like new.
After one pass with the hoover, the surface of the carpet looks a little fuzzy like the fibers were broken down a bit.
Also, the brush on the bissell does a better job of getting out stains.
I have 4 cats who vomit on the carpet occassionally, so this is a big deal for me.
Cleaning area: the bissell is a wider machine so it has a larger cleaning area.
On a plus side, the hoover seems to be a littl e lighter and easier to push.
I have some existing wrist problems, but the hoover did agitate it more.
I will probably end up taking the hoover back and getting the bissell mostly because i want my carpet to remain new looking for a long time to come and i think the hoover may be doing some damage.
